Sales tax in Pakistan
Pakistan has two kinds of sales tax. Sales tax on goods is federal, collected by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), at a standard rate of 18%. Sales tax on services is provincial, collected by the Punjab Revenue Authority, Sindh Revenue Board, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority or Balochistan Revenue Authority, and the rate depends on the province and the service.
BillDoodle sets up a Pakistani invoice for you: amounts in Pakistani rupees (PKR), dates as DD/MM/YYYY, an A4 PDF, a sales tax preset for goods or services, and the total in words.
What to put on a sales tax invoice
- Your business name, address, NTN and STRN
- The buyer’s name, address and NTN/STRN if registered
- The invoice date and a serial number
- A description and quantity of the goods or services, with HS codes for goods where required
- The value excluding tax, the sales tax amount and the value including tax
The FBR is extending electronic invoicing, and some businesses must issue invoices through FBR-integrated systems. A BillDoodle PDF does not connect to FBR, so check whether e-invoicing applies to you.
Frequently asked questions
Which sales tax do I charge on services?
The provincial sales tax of the province where the service is provided or received, depending on that province’s law. Click Taxes, choose the services preset and enter the rate.
Do I need an STRN to issue an invoice?
No. Anyone can issue an invoice, but only registered persons may charge sales tax. If you aren’t registered, choose “No sales tax”.
Can I show the amount in words?
Yes. Pakistani invoices start with “Amount in words” switched on, for example “Rupees Fifty Thousand Only”.
Is it really free?
Yes. You can create and download as many documents as you like without paying and without creating an account.
Where is my data stored?
Everything you type stays in your own browser. Drafts and your history are saved locally on this device, so nothing is uploaded to our servers.
